My submission for Valentines this year, even though I took this photo last February, I thought they would make a lovely valentines photo, but it had past. So here it is for this year ^__^

These photo's were taken in Paris, on the Pont des Arts near the Louvre. There is a lovely tradition where lovers take a lock and attatch it to the bridge, sealing their love inside it. They throw the key into the river below so their love will never be undone. Its such a lovely idea. Such a strong symbol of affection and devotion.

Sadly I think all of these locks were removed a few months after I took this. Apparently they were an eyesore. I was rather outraged by the idea of them being removed.

There were so many, but I especially liked the ones which were customised with hearts.

NOW I get why there are so many padlocks on the bridge in Cologne I always pass by train. Now it all makes sense xD

i did a love lock in paris for my boyfriend. We are going to do one together in london soon! i think they are very romantic hehe :D thank you for the lovely photo

they do this in Lithuania! On just about every bridge, there will be HUNDREDS of locks. The man will also carry across his bride to represent his devotion and protection.

They're not removed at all. Now and then, they just suppress some of them to make sure the bridge doesn't get too heavy (and it allows new couples to put their lock too).
