Priestess of Falcons by StressedJenny Priestess of Falcons by StressedJenny
Inspired by my trip to the Louvre. I spotted this beautiful Egyptian statue and had to draw her costume. I loved the feather design on her dress so much and I really wanted to recreate it in a drawing. I wasn't too sure on the history of the statue or what it was supposed to represent, but with the feather design I had to include some Falcons in there.
The hieroglyphics roughly translate into something like
"I give you feather cos I love you prietess lady"

Haha! Geez I love Egyptian stuff so much.
Howard Carter was my hero whan I was eight! XD

I now ship these two falcons. I say the one giving the feather is a girl and the other one is a boy.

I love how clean the lines on this are and i have serious foot envy with how well drawn that foot is!

I think this might be Isis in a form without her wings?

??? Maybe, I only know that Isis is usually seen with feathers or wings, but Ma'at is too, so it might be either.

True... but Ma'at is so feather-licious that her feather's used for determining whether or not a soul gets to go to Egypt-heaven

Oh is THAT where they got the feather? I always wondered about that. Well, on that note, I vote for Ma'at.

I didn't know Ma'at was a goddess 'till a matter of hours ago. I like Egyptian history, but only if I'm finding it on accident. xD

You know how Egyptian souls were judged, right? Look it up, it's interesting stuff. :D I like Egyptian history/mythology too, except for maybe the incest.

Wonderful! Ancient Egypt is such a fascinating civilization, it's always been my favorite. ^^ Have you read the Amelia Peabody books by Elizabeth Peters? They're mystery books that focus on a family of Victorian-era Egyptologists, but the author was herself an accomplished Egyptologist and you can tell how well she knows her work. ^^ Highly recommended!

Oh, I saw one in the library! Now that I've heard a positive review, I will go check them out! They're not too "Mighty Whitey", are they? That kinda turns me off Victorian books sometimes.

That's one of my favorite things about the series--it's not at all "Mighty Whitey." That is, it is fairly true to history in the way that most of the Europeans treat the Egyptians, and the bigotry they face, but the titular family is very close to their Egyptian staff and are constantly campaigning on their behalf. I think the author is very aware of the treatment and perception of the locals, especially in that time period, and tries to present it fairly. One of the books actually focuses on the marriage of the main character's niece and an Egyptian boy, and the tension that creates. So...yeah, the books are definitely a good blend of "true-to-history" with a non-bigoted set of leads. :3 Hope you get a chance to check them out!

I absolutely LOVE the Falcons <3. The one with the feather-gift is soooo cute. And the dress is well done. I love how you made this entire thing look like it was on an Egyptian wall.
