This branched from my last deviation.

So basically, the whole purpose of a being a Selkie is the ability to remove your seal skin and become a girl, and then put it back on to become a seal again.

So a girl in a seal costume > my version of a Selkie.

XD THEY HAS BEEN RENDERED POINTLESS!!!

Ha! I don't care. When I think of Selkie, I think seal person, and so what if I choose to personify them a bit more obviously. ^__^

It is up to you as an artist, that is what art is about, putting your rendition on things and showing how you view things. Personally there is nothing set in stone of mythology that a selkie in its selkie form did not have human appearnces (sorry big mythology fan). If you really want to get into it a big thing at the moment is the Thor movie and comics. In the movie Loki is Thors brother, in mythology they are not, however Marvle took it into their own hands and made something based loosely around mythology.

Hehe sorry about that, I strongly believe that an artist should make their own stamp and that other people weather they like it or not should just enjoy the art before them rather than becoming mythology belting morons :) I think you concept of Selkies is how I would imagen them, also you have a beautiful style.

Yeah, I like your version better. Just imagine if a Centaur wasn't actually a half human/half horse thing. Imagine if Centaurs were humans in a magical horse disguise that they could slip in and out of and be two different beings instead of one combined thing. Or if a Naga wasn't a half human/have snake creature, but instead, it was a human in a giant magical snake skin that could be slipped on and off. Where's the fun in that? That's right, there is no fun to be found. So suck it. Hybrid creatures are way more fun.

I think it's useful to remind people that selkies aren't real and you can envision them however you damn well please. At least you're not applying body glitter, right?

Who says they're not real? Have you ever seen one? I haven't, but we shouldn't assume things lol.

No, I haven't seen one, and if I had, claiming that they don't exist would not speak well to my clarity of thought.

I'm not sure what you're claiming, here. That I should not assume that a person who becomes a seal by wearing a magical seal cloak is not, in fact, an actual thing that really exists? That this is an assumption that cannot be safely made?

I'm just saying, if no one can prove that one exists through things like video or picture, something more concrete than word, nobody should assume that something does or does not exists. Neither you nor me can say for a fact that they do or do not exist, so we shouldn't say that they do or not, because we don;t know.

This comment was meant to be FUNNY. A little HAHA JOKE TIME LOL thing, thanks. -_-

My comment was meant to be funny, too. Well, not funny, since it's nothing I would be so careless as to call a joke. But funny in that it's a valid way of defending something from unwelcome criticism.

In any case, I'm thoroughly comfortable assuming selkies, as in "magical people who transform into seals by way of magical seal suits" do not exist. For one, I'm unaware of any concrete evidence. Or any flimsy, posterboard-and-papier-mache evidence. Or even any allegations of totally reliable evidence as heard second hand from a friend whose uncle totally knows an expert that lives in Canada.

In fact, I bet that even amongst people who claim that there are such things as "real" selkies there would be hot dispute about the precise nature of the beast itself, since of course it's entirely made up and likely drawn of an amalgam of smaller contradictory hallucinations that were tactfully edited into a cohesive story by canny people who grip your arm just a bit too hard when pressed on the proper spelling of the plural of "fairy".

Hopefully I haven't offended you. My little haha-joke-times tend to have teeth.
