Commission price list. by StressedJenny Commission price list. by StressedJenny
Edit: After my first batch of commissions I realised how much more time and effort goes into each picture to achieve the quality I think is suitable for a paid commission, so as a result the pricing had to change to fit the amount of time it takes to make a commission. Sorry for any confusion. But these are the fixed prices now.

Any marker pen commission gets sent to you in the post and p+p is included in the price.

Heya, I'm starting to take commissions over the next few weeks to raise some extra funds. This is the price list and chart of the range of art thats available.
Sorry if the prices seem a little high but time and quality have been taken into account for what I'm charging and I want to make the best art for you ^__^

For information on when commissions will be open and what to do if you would like one, please look out for my recent journals. Thank you.

Jen

Dear Jenny, I have just found your art and I absolutely love it. I am not even an arty person but on seeing your "Britannia" I have completely fallen for your work. I would love for you to do a picture of our dog in a similar style. If this is something you think you might like to do please contact me at stevenscalum@gmail.com

Thank you.

I don't find it overpriced at all. It seems like a bargain to me. But...I can't buy stuff without parent permission...so I guess this is a pointless comment.

Nah, just go up to them and say, "mother, father, I know what I want for Christmas/My birthday." Or offer to do, I don't know, chores or something for money(not the usual stuff mind you, the extra stuff they feel needs to be done but never can find time for).

It's a shame noone ever realises the amount of hours that can go into a drawing. People only see 20, 40 flying out their wallet at once on a novelty item. Not the 2-6 hours+, material and prior investment (software/harware) on the artists part. I would say these prices were more than fair.

:iconsaragardner:
SaraGardner Featured By Owner Jun 20, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
I think 2-6hrs is an understatement. Maybe most people work faster than me (Okay, I KNOW most people work faster than me), but I spend hours upon hours on everything, even the stuff that doesn't look that great. I agree that it's sad people don't consider that when the see commission prices.

That depends on your style and scale. If you're drawing a cartoon between a5 and a4 then touching it up digitally, it could be between 5-20 minutes work for a sketch and then 2+ hours for cleaning and colouring depending on complexity. If you're doing a close-to-photorealistic drawing then that could take you anywhere over 40 hours. I was basing my guess off of the images shown here.

If you're finding you're spending huge amounts of time on even the most basic of drawings you should look to adapt your style or method, because time literally is money for an artist. Speed is an unfortuante necessity for someone trying to live off freelance work. If you work for a studio then you have out-sourced deadlines and you might be able to get away with a slower pace, but it'd be expected that you'd have a finer attention to detail to make up for it.

Well, Yes, cartooning and such would take much less time. And I suppose if I had a bit simpler, consistent style like this one I would probably be more efficient. The only reason that I spent the same amount of time on "not very good" drawings as on the better ones is because I'm still a young artist. They were the best I could do at the time.I'm not saying they were horrible pictures, they just didn't compare to work of "gods" that you find all over DA. I also don't think I'll ever be doing commissions, so I can take my time on my own work. Anyway, that was just my side note. Sorry, I didn't mean to rant. ;)
