Colouring Stages by StressedJenny Colouring Stages by StressedJenny
Part two of my tutorial (process) The first part being about the stages of sketching which you can find here.

This one is much more colourful ^__^

I hope it helps in some way. I'm not very good at going into detail.

I really love the style of colouring you do :) Using gradient to do shadows is such a fab idea and i'm going to give it a go! For the gradient you use do you just use a shadow colour down to no opacity or do you actually use two different shadow colours? :)

Quick question... how do you take the sketch - (its on paper right?) and make it transparent but for the lines? Or do you go over them?

'multiply layer then add base colour'

This means set the sketch/line art layer to multiply.

Ugh, the gradient tool. *shudder* You're a brave woman. The shadows do look pretty great, though. :)

I've never really used an online paint program with much skill, so I'm wondering....When you set a layer to multiply, what does that do? I see it all the time but I never know the purpose.

If using photoshop you don't need to flatten your layers. You can create a new adjustment layer of brightness/contrast in case you want to go back later and fiddle.

path for that is:
Layer->New Adjustment Layer-> Brightness/Contrast

I'm definitely going to be stealing your gradient trick ;]

Ahhhhh so you use gradients to do your shading, interesting. I've never actually tried that, I usually just lower my brush 'hardness' and the opacity. Your way seems more efficient

Really nice use of gradient shading, a lot softer and smoother than a lot of the stuff I see. <3
